Why would I choose colon hydrotherapy rather than taking a laxative or enema?

There are many reasons why it is not advisable to take laxatives, mainly because your body can become dependent upon them, especially “stimulant” laxatives that when used frequently can decrease your colons ability to contract over time which can damage nerves, muscles and other tissues. An enema only reaches the lower part of the colon, whereas with colon hydrotherapy the entire length of the colon can be reached.

Is It Safe?

YES – we use a gravity fed open system LIBBE device which is FDA registered in America and TGA registered and approved in Australia. Operation procedures, regulations and guidelines are practiced under a strict code. There has never been a death or serious injury reported using this equipment and our therapists are certified by I-ACT (International Association of Colon Hydrotherapy) and trained to operate the Libbe device using single- use, sterile disposable rectal tubes and nozzles.

I am concerned about hygiene – what are your protocols

Hygiene is of the utmost importance throughout our establishment. There is a 25 step protocol with cleaning and disinfecting the unit after each and every client WITHOUT EXCEPTION, ensuring there is no contamination. We use sterile disposable rectal nozzles.

Are there any contraindications to colon hydrotherapy?

There are certain circumstances where colon hydrotherapy is not recommended including recent colon surgery, first and third trimester of pregnancy, fissures or fistulas, aneurysm, severe anaemia, abdominal hernia, crohn’s disease – please call us or talk to your doctor if you are unsure.

Will it hurt?

NO – in fact the procedure can be very therapeutic and relaxing. It’s just like going to the toilet. Sometimes, if you have a lot of gas or are extremely constipated you may experience a little cramping, but this calms once you have released. Light massage of the abdomen can help if this occurs, along with a heat pack which we can provide.

Is it embarrassing?

There is no smell, no mess, and no discomfort. You undress in private, and to maintain your dignity insertion of the lubricated rectal tube is done by you (or with assistance from the therapist). The therapist can stay with you or be on hand, you just ring the bell for assistance anytime.

What if I want to stop?

You are in complete control of the water intake. If at any time you wish to stop you just turn off the tap and ring the bell for the therapist.

Does it wash away all the good bacteria?

If your bowel is toxic then it is very likely that your bowel is home to more unfriendly bacteria than the good. Creating a better environment will allow the good bacteria to flourish – we always recommend taking a good probiotic supplement to encourage this.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend 4-5 treatments fairly close together for a thorough cleansing of the colon. By this time you would have learnt to listen to your body and will know when the time is right to embark on another cleansing programme.  Choosing to cleanse on a regular basis for maintenance is completely an individual choice which many clients make.

I have my period – should I wait

No, this is a great time to embark on colon hydrotherapy as your body is already cleansing.
